Description

United House was appointed by Notting Hill Housing, through their framework agreement, to deliver a residential and retail scheme in Grange Walk, Bermondsey, in the heart of Southwark’s regeneration area.

The site was currently occupied by two 1950s housing blocks, commercial buildings and a former council depot.

The development will provide 205 homes in a mix of studios, one, two, three and four bedroom duplexes and townhouses, comprising 44 for affordable rent, 102 for shared ownership, and 59 for private sale, plus 4,086 sq m of amenity space, including balconies, private terraces and courtyards.

There will also be retail units on the ground floor of two of the blocks. 20 of the homes will be designed for wheelchair users.

Challenges

In its role as developer, Notting Hill Housing is working with United House as contractor, focusing on the design and build, with PCKO as appointed architects, on the site. The 3.04 acre site is in the Bermondsey Spa regeneration area, one of the oldest parts of Southwark, with its ancient buildings and cobbled streets providing a historic backdrop for the new development.

Bermondsey Spa is an historic part of SE1 and Grange Walk will deliver homes and shops in the heart of this regeneration area. United house is working with Notting Hill and PCKO to ensure the scheme will be delivered sensitively with due consideration to the surrounding area and local residents.
