united house joins London's Green500
|
United House has become one of the first social housing contractors to sign up for the Mayor of London’s Green500 initiative, leading the way in cutting carbon emissions across the capital.
Green500 is helping 500 of London’s leading organisations to collectively cut their carbon emissions by 1.5 million tonnes over 2½ years. It provides member companies with a carbon mentoring service to help them achieve their carbon reduction goals, an independent verification of real carbon savings, and holds an annual awards event hosted by the Mayor of London.
United House, with offices across London including Islington, Camden and Barnet is one of the UK’s foremost specialist housing and development companies. It has more than 40 projects underway across London and the South East, from Bishops Stortford to Eastbourne and from Oxford to Kent.
Paul Greenwood, United House’s Best Practice Director, said:
'United House has a longstanding commitment to increasing sustainability. We were one of the first social housing construction companies to achieve ISO14001 certification for its complete operation and have cut carbon emissions by over 10% in the last year alone. The London Development Agency’s Green500’s detailed carbon reduction plan takes this work a step further and provides the framework for continuous year on year improvements.'
'With housing contributing almost 27% of carbon emissions, we all need to do business in a more efficient and sustainable way. The Green 500 initiative is an important step in that direction.'
